Community is very important to all of us on the team and we think it’s vital for us to offer not just somewhere to eat and drink, but also a space that is of active benefit to the local community.
When we first came to get the Bell ready to open again after taking it on we were blown away by the number of people who came to say hello and tell us how much the pub has always meant to the community.

Cathy is a member of the management team and has responsibility for community projects. She is also a student at the University of Gloucestershire and is studying for a Masters Degree in Health Psychology. Her main area of interest is community wellbeing, particularly tackling problems like loneliness, social isolation and mental health problems.

The first 2 projects that have come out of her research are the Bell Memory Cafe, for people experiencing memory loss as a result of dementia, stroke, head injury or other illness, and their friends, family or carers. Memory Cafe runs on alternate Wednesday mornings and full details are at https://www.thebellshurdington.com/memory-cafe/

From Friday September 29th onwards we will also be hosting the Silver Bells Lunch Club. This is a fortnightly lunch club for retired people and aims to provide a warm, welcoming environment for those who are older and may be feeling isolated for a number of reasons. Full details of this are available at https://www.thebellshurdington.com/silver-bells-lunch-club/

If you’d like to know about these, or any other of our community projects, please get in touch with Cathy by emailing community.thebell@gmail.com
